Printing process: Risographs are printed one colour layer at a time using stencils. These prints use between 2-4 colour layers. Registration between colour layers and coverage will vary between prints and batches, these slight imperfections are all part of this wonderful printing process and make each print unique.

Printer Johnson was started by printmaker Vicki Johnson in 2019! With a background in textile design and community arts, Vicki eventually made the jump from textiles to paper, starting out with limited-edition screen prints before naturally expanding into cards, prints and all sorts of lovely paper goods. More recently, Printer Johnson has also started publishing work by other artists, using the brand as a way to share and support illustrators they love. I especially love the idea of artwork living on something as simple as a greeting card - making beautiful illustration a little more accessible and something you can actually send to someone you love.

I’ve followed the work of Printer Johnson for so long! Vicki has such a distinct eye for vibrant color and graphic, layered compositions. When it comes to risograph, she really makes the most of the medium’s layering, texture and incredible color possibilities. Her compositions remind me of old-school still lifes, except they feel anything but still - they’re full of colour, movement and life.
